Moab is not really a road bike hub sort of place, IMO. too dry, too remote and desolate, too much traffic in town and the scenery outside of town is probably boring for a kid. the Grand Junction area might be more suitable. it's kind of in the middle of nowhere, but there is a lot of touristy, amusement park kind of stuff in town these days for young people.

pick up a copy of Edward Abbey's "Desert Solitare" for a taste of what it used to be like, and surf some websites of Myrtle Beach, S.C. for what it's like in town these days.

BTW, i'm heading your way (Arlington) in a couple of weeks, on my motorcyle. then biking from Arlington to Dover, Oh. on a four day tour to visit my cousins and my ancient 90 year old aunt. have fun. i might even be passing through Moab.
