Depends, of course, where you start from. All winter routes are better with studded tires. Roads are better than trails, at that time of year, as a rule.
My experience of winter riding in Boston is that the major roads, e.g. Jamaicaway and Rte 1 are plowed earliest and best in a snowstorm, and are the most well-maintained. Same thing is probably true for Cambridge.
