1) I converted my '92 to 10 cog from 7 cog Shimano two years ago, quite straightforward. I used DT controls to retain the feel I'm used to for 20 years of service but 'brifters would just require thread on cable stops. The most important thing is to match the generation of indexed drivetrain to the rear spacing. No problem w/ a 130 rear hub in mine but the 979 frame Cannot Be Coldset so measure carefully before investing in components.



2) The scratches are Patina, clean it and ride it. The anodizing likely will not benefit from polishing and will be a bear to mess with.
Any serious attempt at finish work w/ chemicals and power tools will likely result in an ugly mess. I'm not w/ the Period Correct Police but just live with it.

3) 25MM is correct. Be careful not to bugger-up the seatpost binder/stud.
