Its not the pedals that give youy the power, but the shoes. If you can master a good cyclocross mount/ dismount, you will be much better off than cycling with running shoes. Running shoes soles are much too soft and too much energy is wasted flexing them. Plus, they won't last so long.

Plus - how much time would you really save ? Try it in your driveway & see.
