George,

Thanks a ton for the reply. I will definitely take Old Cutler. And I had originally planned Card Sound Road but because it will be a fairly long day, may go with US1 to largo.
From reading on the web, I got the impression that more than 75 miles of the multi-use, paved Overseas Heritage Trail have been completed.
The 106.5-mile Florida Keys Overseas Heritage Trail (FKOHT) will stretch the length of the Florida Keys, from Key Largo to Key West, the southernmost point of the continental United States. The trail runs parallel to US Highway 1 and is quite exposed, so bring lots of sunscreen.

Currently, more than 75 miles of the multi-use, paved trail have been completed. For the rest, users will have to share the road with vehicles.
Is this misleading?

Also, getting through Miami may be challenging on a Monday morning (rush hour). Can you recommend a safe route from say, Lauderdale to connect up with old cutler rd?

Thanks!
Greg
