Not sure. May have heard it in the 1970s when I worked in an auto body-repair shop and we did some work for a Peugeot car dealer. (I definitely remember one dealership mechanic calling them 'Pukes.')

EDIT: After further review, I think I shouldn't have used Pook, because I
think that is the proper pronunciation for Puch brand bikes.
