Yes indeed. I think cats are very sensitive creatures, and easily traumatized. Some handle it better than others though.
Our adopted shelter cat pictured above must have had something bad happen to her when she was young. A rough childhood, as it were. We've had her six years and she is still a bit skittish and aloof. But starting to relax more and more. Some woman adopter her and actually returned her, saying she was "sketchy". When I heard that story, I couldn't believe it. I told the shelter volunteer "we'll take her."

Let's hope Alto learns to trust and be comfortable. I'm sure she will when things settle down.
I wanted an all black cat when we adopted Minky but, one can't be too choosy. They're all beautiful in my world.
