I prefer the Lezyne hand pump for both Shrader and presta valve. With the hose attachment I don't loose all my air disengaging the pump. I have come to find that the pressure gauges are really not needed. With the smaller pumps you can't really get a tire up to road pressure without hurting yourself, but you can get up enough pressure to make your ride.
Surprisingly the best pumps I have used have been the old Silka Frame type pumps...
