I've had good luck on small screws with using a left hand drill bit. The friction of the drill bit will unwind the screw enough to get pliers on it.
You can take a small, normal drill bit and re-grind the edge to make it a left hand, reverse drill bit. The flutes are the wrong way so you can't drill a deep hole but for something like this the cutting edge is all that matters.
