Last two bikes I bought I added a stand. I find the convenient as I stop for breaks occasionally and don't want to lay my bike down or try and lean it against something. it does add weight and a lot of riders think they looks dorky. Thats too bad, I want one and use it.
I do find however that with a very light bike it is not as reliable. The old steel Schwinn I used to own was stable as a rock. The aluminum Giant Sedona I bought next was a little tippy, still not too bad but would fall over if you bumped it too hard. The Giant Roam 2 I have now is VERY tippy. The larger 700c wheels, the lighter weight frame and so much on the top make it top heavy. I've stood there and watched it after firmly planting it on the stand and saw the front wheel turn all by itself after 20 seconds or so and the thing start to tip. So on taller, lighter bikes they become less reliable and the bike may get damaged in a fall. I park the Roam and hang it on my cheapo bike repair stand and use a park tools handle bar holder on the bar to keep it straight (tight quarters).
