We need pics to really help. Also, you can read the two letter code numbers on the backs of the derailers. Those will disclose the year the derailers were made and from that you can determine the year. I know you think it's a 2001 and that may be correct, but verification using the two letter codes would help. You can use the vintage Trek website to identify the year the derailers were made or post here and someone else can look it up for you. You might also want to check bike pedia to see if they can identify the bike.
