we have already ordered him new tires, tubes, brake pads (koolstops dual compound salmon) and cork handle bar tape. i think we are going to keep the cables because they are in great condition and if the bearings are as good as i'm hoping we'll use them as well. i know a lot of people probably advise against doing this but i (as well as him) like keeping the original parts as long as possible. my 1974 schwinn le tour still has all of it's original cables and bearings and that bike is amazing i have ridden it every where for 15 years now. but i will change them if they are beyond proper functionality. as for the chain what do you suggest replacing it with if it's unusable?
