I can't comment on the SH-M089, but I have the wide version of what I think was the previous model, the SH-M088LE, as I also have wide feet. The SH-M089 also seems to have an SH-M089LE wide version.
This was my second pair of SPD shoes and I'm extremely happy with it. I love the ratchet mechanism, much better than the shoelaces and velcro straps on the SH-MT42NV I had before. The sole is stiff enough but easy to walk with. I never ratchet it up very tight, to leave space for when my feet swell on long rides.
