Those shoes will accept SPD style cleats (the ones on the shoe) as well as SPD-SL style cleats.
As far as your pedals, there's no way for us to know what you have based on your description, but it sounds like you have these..
If that's the case, an SPD cleat will fit one side, and the other side is just for regular shoes without cleats. You have SPD cleats, so they should work just fine (if theses are your pedals). I am unaware of a two sided pedal that accepts two styles of cleats. The SPD-SL style cleat is below this paragraph.
