Bikepedia is a pretty decent source for general info. They list only one year for a Mongoose SX 6.5 (1998), and it looks like it was a fairly decent entry-level mountain bike. A notch above department store stuff, but not high end. MSRP when new was $505. Value now would depend a LOT on condition, including the shape of the suspension fork. (And a nearly 20-year-old entry level fork is probably not in ideal shape.)

$125 doesn't seem excessive if in very good condition, but it's not the bargain of the century, either. And the price could very well go lower since there's a department store stigma to the Mongoose name nowadays.

OK, with info about that particular bike aside... You'll need a bike that fits. Bikes come in different frame sizes. Sort of like shoes, a bike that's the wrong size, no matter how cheap, is NOT a bargain. How tall are you? You'll also want a bike that fits what you want to do. Since you're looking at a mountain bike, are you looking to ride trails? What kind of riding do you intend to do?
