I've bought several bikes off CL. The only test rides were 50 yards or so to check the shifters, could have done that on a stand or by lifting the wheel. I would never give a seller cash prior to the actual purchase or ask to ride the bike out of his sight. As mentioned, take cash and don't count on a second chance. Good luck!
