I'll disagree here a bit - it's really not that great a tragedy to modify the bike, at least on principle. Raleigh Pros are fairly common - they're one of the most plentiful higher end bikes. Campy NR is not that hard to find. There is no great loss to history if someone modifies this for his preferences.
Whether it makes financial sense is another matter.
