I used a 11-32 on a 9 speed 1x for a tour from Singapore to Northern Thailand and it was fine.
But I also had a 24 on the inner ring as a get out of jail incase of big hills that i never uses but the idea was that i could just push the chain over with my finger and use the inner ring if needed. Just a option as it saves the weigh and clutter of front mechs and shifters and an inner ring is very light.
