You can get by with a lead acid battery that's inexpensive, ponderous, and not recommended. Luna Cycles has a battery for about $400 with charger (last time that I looked) that's more than adequate. Only way to save any more is to fashion a 36V system. Complete plug and play kit, look at Dillenger.
