Shoes are a personal thing, and if they are comfortable and suit you for your type of riding, then don't worry about it. 14-17k is probably not long enough that it matters much.

Before buying adidas rayado i was wearing nike dunk high (this http://www.amazon.com/NIKE-DUNK-BLAC.../dp/B009DPZ0V2 but on this color http://www.amazon.com/nike-dunk-high...ct_top?ie=UTF8) because it was colder outside and ya know, and they felt good , i had no problem with the sole being soft/thin and i think they are pretty much the same (same sole with the nike and adidas that i own)
