Actually works to keep the skunk tail off your backside.
And for the front as well. I actually use below creation on pretty much all of my MTBs, does a great job of keeping mud and sand out of headset. Especially clear to see when I take bikes with and without them for maintenance

In combination with downtube mud catcher simple clip on at the back makes long rides on muddy roads way more enjoyable. Full fenders on my Krampus in pic below would be just packed with mud in no time. Missus's 1x1 was OK as she has Fat Franks and they are not knobbies, shed the mud pretty good without packing under fenders
