Expensive compared to what?
Good pedals are nice. I went to SPD a while ago, and I must admit that I can't really tell the difference between "cheap" and "expensive". Most are rebuildable, and I do try to keep an eye on the condition.
I've thought about going cheap titanium, but apparently at least some of them don't use hardened cones.
