I have Tektro CR710's that I really like, Canti's can be set up to be a very effective braking system, I often go to a stickier compound brake pad along the lines of Koolstop, on older Canti systems I ran Koolstop Eagle Claws, the yellow is a slightly softer yet stickier compound which really helps in stopping power.
You will have a great combination in retro Canti's ie LX or XT, with XT merging into the look of your derailleurs.
