As for frequency of shifting, different people have different techniques, but I personally like to keep my cadence (pedalling speed) relatively consistent, so I change my gears as the terrain changes so that my legs are spinning at a fairly constant speed.

Well, it's not from a small sproket to a large one. It's the rear sprokets. It's the smallest one outside, to the next bigger one. But if you're saying that if I use the full range of motion on the shifter it will skip gears this and it's normal, I won't worry about it. Just wanted to make sure all was good with my bike
Just won't push the shifter all the way in.
