You know, I've put thousands of miles on Armadillo tyres, and haven't had a single puncture yet. However, one of my early purchases of Specialized tyres was a problem, due to poor quality control.
From what you've described, it sounds like you may have a stray thread of kevlar/aramid fibre sticking out from the casing. The stuff is great for preventing punctures, but a stray thread is very abrasive, and has been known to actually cause a puncture.
