Mechanic knows nothing. Just get a standard Shimano threaded BB for Hollowtech II. Something like the BB-R60. Screw the cups into the frame (you may need to get the appropriate tool) and stick the cranks on. The bearings are in the cups, I don't think they are replaceable but as the BB costs peanuts anyway why would they need to be?

I've done this myself taking 6700 cranks off a Giant carbon and put them onto an older aluminium frame with a standard 68mm threaded BB. I replaced the cranks on the giant with an 11 speed 105, no problems with compatibility.
