I like to patronize my local bike shop and buy as many things as I feel is reasonable; however, when it comes to things like cable sets, I buy on-line. You can get Shimano's top of the line Dura-Ace brake cable set for $22 bucks from Jensen. They are great quality and they provide a crisp "direct connect" feel that you don't get with lesser cable sets.

No need to bash my opinion here. I'm at a stage in my life that I can afford the good stuff. For years I bought rock bottom cables and housing and can tell you that the high end stuff is substantially better. Those cables will also make average brakes feel and brake more crisply.
