I wonder how long it will be before some bikes start coming factory fitted with dropper seats? Not that I think it would be a good idea for urbane riding but the market is such that gimmick add-ons, like spring shocks on cheap MTB's are perceived by the general public as valuable additions. Would certainly solve OP's wife's problem.
