Many years ago, a friend and I were riding in Vermont, when a dog decided to join us. We ignore it, figuring he'd quit at the properly line, then maybe the edge of town, then if/when he got tired. 13 miles later we still had out friend with us, and stopped at s store for snacks, and gave him some water.

He had a collar and tag, so we tied him up and phoned his owner to come get him. After getting the important facts, the owner explained that he does this, and would follow us to Canada if we encouraged him. He requested that we ask the shop owner to untie him after we'd left so he'd come home instead.
