Old worn-out cycling clothes

What do you do with your old cycling clothes? Shorts that have worn thin enough to become see-through, jerseys that have been damaged in an accident or maybe with a simple fabric pull from an aggressive washing machine? Do you just throw them into the trash, or have you found a way to recycle them? How bad do they have to become before you stop wearing them? I have a few garments taking up space in my closet that I don't wear and likely won't wear, that don't seem good enough for donation to a second hand store, but that I can't quite get myself to put into the trash. The synthetic fabrics aren't very good for use as rags. I can't figure out what to do with them.
