I prefer my tires near the midpoint of the recommended pressure range. They get better grip and yield a more comfortable ride than max inflation. I think they last longer too. That said, I know it's time to inflate them when my bike computer indicates that my normal route is 1% longer than before. Softer tires reduce the effective diameter of the wheel, which results in slightly higher odom readings.

As for this thread, it's now 5 years old and I believe the OP has gotten married and had a kid by now.
