The full-chrome finish was a $50 option on a then-$230 bike--pretty significant price bump. It's over ($1000 total for the bike) in today's money.

As a recent purchaser, restorer, and resto-mod'er (aka newer components) of an all-chrome 1977 SLT 12.2, $185 (if the bike is in decent shape) is a great price and the bike is a great ride. Smooth, stable, comfortable, and as swift as you wish. I'm pretty over the moon with mine.
