I do primarily road riding, most of it for transportation. However, multitrack (nontechnical) mountain biking does appeal to me -- I just don't have a lot of nearby places to practice it without first putting the bike in the car. However, your post has encouraged me to take my mountain bike on a commuter rail train to access a trail.
