Please forgive my ignorance, fietsbob, but I put a Thudbuster ST on my CF single bike about a year ago and haven't noticed any disadvantages. There is the weight, of course, but I start most rides with 3 liters of water in a frame bag along with the usual spares and tools, so I'm not on an ultra lightweight machine, anyhow. I think it helps on all riding surfaces, especially washboard gravel roads.

Are you saying it might damage the CF frame? Is the stoker's seat tube on an ultra lightweight tandem simply not robust enough to handle the stress? It seems to me that the post's shock absorption would result in less torque on the seat post. I'm probably wrong. I am looking for a suspension post to replace the old Giant in-line coil spring model on my steel Santana tandem.
