These days with budget dyno hub wheels going for less than $100, I just don't see any benefit in a sidewall dynamo. Even running two LED headlights and a tail light off my Shimano dynohub wheel, I really don't feel any added resistance. Not much more expensive than a sidewall and maybe less if you have to add mounting accessories to your bike to make the sidewall dynamo work.

I'm planning on using a dynamo hub at least for my winter commuter. For my spring/summer/fall commuter a sidewall dynamo seems to make a lot of sense, but I'll need to weigh the pros against the cons. Which Shimano dynamo are you using?
