Yes Mavic had their own proprietary freehub body, that took Mavic shark tooth cassettes. Back in the day every part of every Mavic shifter, Mavic derailleur, Mavic stem, Mavic seatpost, Mavic crankset etc. was available as a spare. Those days are long since past.

Mavic hubs are a brilliant design. However if you don't have a replacement Hyperglide freehub body they are tough to come by. Mavic freewheel and Hyperglide/Campy hubs will spin forever and use replaceable sealed bearings.
