I liked a shell glove + a separate fleece liner glove, not water proof, but water resistant. for reasons said .

Benefit: polar fleece can be wrung out and put back on... it holds moisture but does not absorb it.

Water proof is my cycling rain cape draped over the bars and my hands, then any glove is fine.
