pashley roadster

I bought my Ashley Roadster classic a few weeks ago having wanted one for years. I love it, but.....the chain case is REALLY noisy. The slightest bump makes the chain smash against the inside and the resulting noise is enough to make small animals run for cover in fear. Any ideas as to how I could silence it? I considered taking the case off and maybe adding some sort of cushioning to the insides this a bad idea or would it better just to remove the case altogether and suffer the oil stained trousers? Seems a bit mad that having spent so much money I am even having to ask such things but there you are! Tim
