I have two 1x bikes without clutched RDs and 1 with a clutched RD. I don't remember the clutched RD ever dropping the chain. My 1x10 non clutch has a couple times. My 1x9 non clutch is a rigid and the spring in the RD is probably a bit weak and still doesn't drop very often, generally only when I'm going fast over chattery stuff.
