Customizing a Surly frame

I'm looking for some opinions here.
I have a 42cm Surly Pacer that I really like as my road bike.
I also have a spare 42cm Pacer frame and fork lying around.
I think the Cross Check is a cool bike, but the 42cm model is not the same size as the Pacer (longer and taller standover), so me getting a CC is out.

I was wondering if it would be feasible to get brake bosses welded on to a Pacer frame to make a bike that takes canti/v-brakes. Would it work? Plus getting dropouts spaced to 132.5cm (from the 130cm they are now). I want to make a "Cross Pacer"
