Can use Shimano FD-6700 with top pull cable?

I'm replacing a top pull front derailleur on a Cx bike. I purchased a Shimano Ultegra FD-6700; however, when routed the from the top, the cable tightens as the lever moves but the derailleur does not swing.

The top rated comment on the Jenson USA product page says that some guy has used the Ultegra derailleur with both top & bottom pull configurations on his road and cx bike. This makes me believe it's possible but I just don't see how I should route the cable differently than straight in from the top.

Is it my cable routing the problem or have I been misled by the Jenson USA product page?

If it's me then how should I be routing the cable?

Thanks!
