Perhaps it is a 1977. An earlier response indicated that the serial no. on the bottom bracket was from 1977. Glad to see that the stem is original also. it is a nice piece. nicer than some of the earlier stems.

If you look carefully you can still see the outline of the Reynolds decal on the down tube. so that is another bit of evidence.

I happen to have on my desk a simplex Super L J front derailleur. Would that have been the original piece on this bike?

I have had an offer of $350 on the bike but the buyer has not seen it yet . She does not sound like a collector, just someone who wants a nice bike to ride. I'm not sure how much she cares about the non original parts.
