Driving and the elderly is a touchy subject. Some states have tried mandatory retesting for all, but it has been rejected as discriminatory.

However, an accident like this one should trigger a mandatory retest, and perhaps a medical evaluation for the driver.

The insurance company could drop her insurance, but that doesn't mean she couldn't simply change insurance companies (at a cost).
