If it's just a bare frame, you may be able to 'Gate-Check' it. I used to do this with strollers when I had to travel when the kids were little. You get a little tag that goes on it, and leave it at the end of the jetway, just before you enter the aircraft. The Gate-Check stuff still goes in the cargo hold, but it's last on, first off, and doesn't go through all of the baggage train / converyer belt / gorilla handling that your suitcase would.

Helps if you're also not traveling with much extra luggage, or at time / flight that's not super crowded. Check with your airline.
