Do (rear) bike fenders with mud flaps help prevent flying debris into kids trailers ?

This might be a silly question but its one I was hoping to double check on before i go making major changes to my bike + trailer setup..
I have one of those instep trailers that you pull for 2 and up.. its been a long while since i used it but i'm finding our little guy covered in rails to trails debris and such after a ride, especially one where drizzle suddenly falls..Granted it does have one of the pull down plastic shields, but on a really hot day that cant really be used.. so i thought maybe it was time to put some fenders on my mountain bikes that do the pulling..

I had found these Planet Bike Fenders with Mud flaps on amazon for around $50.. i'm guessing they will do the job but wanted to get some opinions first.

Thanks in advance
