I think it was introduced in late 1979, after catalogs were printed, and was excluded from 1980 catalog because Schwinn treaded gingerly in BMX and ATB field. They were slow to get into new things (like lightweight road bikes), and had a lifetime guaranty on bikes and didn’t know if they’d stand up to the abuse of off roading.
Catalogs are rarely the source of all knowledge and truth. Proofs are sent out to printers months in advance, prior to any production. They are more like ideas or concepts, than representing actual production. I have owned several Schwinn that according to the catalogs, do not exist.

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.
