Caltrans is reporting that the mudslide area between Gorda and Ragged Pt. will remain closed through the end of September, 2018. I'd certainly check before assuming that it'll be open in October, but am at least somewhat hopeful that it'll be open again next year - and maybe in time for a late fall trip this year.
Good news. Apparently the work is being completed early than first thought. Current schedule for reopening the mudslide area is now the end of July this summer.
