It's true. I've always loved the frenchie stuff and it's great fun, but it's not without issues. Many things are a whole lot less precise and frankly, solid, than campy NR/SR of the same era. For instance, a NR crank and BB will set both cranks exactly the same distance from the chainstays, and the chainline will be spot on. With Stronglight, not so much. In fact I'd go as far as to recommend a Phil BB so you can dial in the drivetrain. Jubilee derailleurs shift fine. They are more delicate than NR. Chain, freewheel and set up matter most, as usual. It may be pushing it a bit to run a 28t with a short cage. Are those new brakes going to fit? Are they the short reach (39-49) Mafac Competitions? I think Masi was using short reach in 76, though I'm not certain. My 78 uses short.

Ducking and running.
