Get any JIS taper cranks, put them on the BB you got and see how the chainring lines up with the cog. If it is not close, note how much longer/shorter the axle should be (if, say, the chainring should come in 3 mm, buy a BB with an axle 6 mm shorter; the axles are symmetrical).

Probably any BB you look at will be JIS. The other taper is ISO and used by traditional European makers. No harm will happen from using the wrong one, but the crank will not sit anywhere near where you expected it to. All Shimano are JIS. Nearly all Sugino, but not their high end track stuff.
