Tire width fitment

Guy asked me for advice, but it is beyond my knowledge base.

He's got a Kona gravel bike. Fork is advertised as taking tires up to 700x50. A friend of his says that it is equivalent of a 29 x 2.0 tire and that he should be able to fit such a tire to his gravel bike. I believe the bike originally came with 32 tires and he has no idea how wide the rim is.

Initially, I told him that fitting a 29 x 2.0 tire would depend on real diameter of the tire vs. how the tire mfg markets it, and knob profile. Also that just because it fits the fork, it might not fit the rear.

Any other advice that I missed and should let him know about?
